Report: Rodmersham 2s also secured their Division 4 safety with 8 points from a home defeat against Catford Wanderers but will feel that a win was the more likely outcome until late in the game.
The visitors opted to bat first and found free scoring difficult against a determined home attack. However, Rodmersham would come to rue the 47 extras gifted to their opposition - including 31 wides! - which allowed them to post a 200-plus target when circa 180 should have been closer to the mark, the wickets shared amongst the 5 man attack.
Nevertheless, despite losing an early wicket - sadly no referral system in place at Bottles Lane - 217 seemed well within reach when Jamie Horne and Michael Willis were comfortably putting on 62 for the second wicket and even with the 8th wicket pair of Dan Pumfrett and Kevin Beacon at the crease. The turning point came though with 29 required for the win when Pumfrett was inexplicably adjudged LBW and the home side eventually fell just two short
