Report: Rodmersham 2s will feel that a good chance of a win was allowed to slip away at Bexleyheath on Saturday.
After opting to bat first on a lively and unpredictable track, the home side found the Rodmersham attack difficult to combat and runs painfully slow to come by. Their hundred didn't come up until the 38th over by which time they were five down but a late rally, assisted by some erratic fielding, took them to 169-9 from their 50 overs, perhaps 20 or 30 more than seemed likely at one point. Thirteen year old Daniel Kemp stood out with 3 wickets, Sam Blackwell bowled superbly for 2-36 from his 15 overs and Dan Pumfrett lucklessly for 1-14 from his 7.
The response started promisingly as the Rodmersham openers comfortably put on 47 for the first wicket. Thereafter, however, wickets fell regularly thanks mainly to a combination of straight bowling and loose batting as the visitors fell short of even a single batting point inside 39 overs.
