Report: After a string of disappointing results and dismal batting displays the Sittingbourne side were seeking improvement at Catford and came away with much to build upon albeit on the wrong end of a high scoring draw.
The home side opted to bat first and steadily compiled 258-8 declared, a total not at all reflective of what was a luckless Rodmersham display in the field. After a tea-break shower, Rodmersham began their response on a damp track and soon found themselves in trouble at 8-3 - the home umpire coming into play early on - before Dan Pumfrett and Graeme Corner steadied the innings. Corner went on to make a fine 47 before becoming eighth man out at 108 with 17 overs still to face.
However, there then followed a superb, unbeaten stand of 97 between Michael Willis (39) and Jack Bayford (53) to ensure maximum batting points for Rodmersham and a losing draw which felt like a win. Rodmersham 2s face some crucial matches in the weeks to come to take themselves to Division 4 safety but should take heart from this battling display and build upon it.
