Losing the toss in damp conditions ideally suited to bowlers, Rodmersham were predictably asked to bat. This did not deter skipper Trevor Jackson(81) and Michael Jones(69), scoring his second consecutive League fifty, as they put on 145 for the first wicket in 29 overs. Although cheap wickets were lost in the ensuing chase for runs, Rodmersham still posted the decent score of  203 for 7 in their allotted 50 overs.

Bromley Town batted steadily in response and the score stood at 93 for 1 in the 28th over. The introduction of Tony Bond (3 for 16 in 10 overs) and Tom Roach (3 for 23 in 9 overs) signalled disaster for Bromley as they collapsed to 109 all out having lost their last 9 wickets for 16 runs in 15 overs.
