Match Report

Rodmersham v Upchurch

Match Type Shepherd Neame 20/20 Cup ( 2nd Round)
Venue Bottles Lane
Date Fri 30th July 2004
Result Rodmersham won by 64 runs

After Rodmersham lost their  their first wicket in the second over with the score on 5, skipper Colin Mason (37) and his son Daniel (41) retrieved the situation with a fine partnership of 75 in 11 overs. The later batsmen wielded the long handle but fine fielding by Upchurch prevented the floodgates from opening and Rodmersham were restricted to 134 for 5 from their 20 overs.

Upchurch started their response disastrously with a run out in the first over. Opening bowler Chris Whitehead (3 for 12) turned the screw as Upchurch were reduced to 22 for 4 after 5 overs. Throughout the innings the bowlers were supported by ground fielding and catching of the highest order which exerted considerable pressure on the batsmen. Inevitably, the pressure told and Upchurch were dismissed for 70 in 15.3 overs with Darren Nokes (2 for 5) mopping up the tail to give Rodmersham a comfortable 64 run victory.
