The players in the Rodmersham side owed their selection entirely to the fact that they were in the bar  at 9-45 pm on Saturday 23rd August, just 16 hours before the scheduled start time, when it was discovered that the person responsible for selecting the side had not done so and omitted to inform anyone! So it was that 10 people, including a septuagenarian (Dick Ayres) and a female ECB Coach (Sam Roach) saved Rodmershams' embarrassment and honoured the fixture.

The match was played in excellent spirit with the Old Hartsdonians batsmen gorging themselves on the friendly Rodmersham bowlers while scoring 242 for 3 from their 40 overs with M Silk (127) top scoring.

Rodmersham responded in bright and breezy fashion reaching 186 from the first 31 overs. Unfortunately they lost 9 wickets in so doing and were therefore beaten by 56 runs! Michael Jones (69) top scored with skipper Mick Lidstone scoring an uncharacteristic 17* from15 balls! All the fun and games should not hide the fact that I Wroot bowled an excellent spell taking 5 for 24 in 6 overs.
