Rodmersham entered this match against top of the table Chestfield with a much weakened attack which made it essential that they bat well.

When Rodmersham were asked to bat they responded in magnificent style. Openers Michael Jones (56) and Piet Botha(45) laid the foundation for a challenging score and skipper Colin Mason(80*) together with good contributions right down the order saw the innings close on 251 for 6.

The Chestfield response saw them reach 125 for 1 after 32 overs as they tried to up the tempo in their push for victory. In such perfect batting conditions skipper Colin Mason's main priority was to keep ringing the changes with "stop gap" bowlers to reduce the flow of runs. The bowlers responded well to the challenge and backed by excellent fielding induced batting errors which restricted Chestfield to 224 for 7 to give Rodmersham a winning draw and the lion's share of the points.
