Perfect batting conditions at Tenterden made a high scoring draw almost inevitable.

Rodmersham asked Tenterden to bat hoping to restrict them to 240 or less to set up victory. Opener Nick Daynes rode his luck early on with edged chances eluding slip fielders and a skied "dolly" which two nameless fielders went for and then left to each other! Daynes went on to score an excellent 144. With two overs remaining the score stood at 225 for 6 and Rodmersham were confident of restricting their opponents to the targeted 240. Unfortunately, M Brann(24) and P Hope(34*) had different ideas as they peppered the boundary with a confetti of fours and sixes, taking 42 runs from the last two overs to give their side an imposing 267 for 7 from their 50 overs.

After an excellent start, Rodmersham were pegged back to 130 for 3 after 30 overs. Piet Botha was then joined by Colin Mason(37*) and they took the score to 215 in the next 13 overs when Botha was out for an outstanding 112. With victory in sight the next two batsmen perished going for big shots as Rodmersham closed on 237 for 6, 31 runs short of victory.
