A magnificent all round display by Pete Botha saw Rodmersham to a convincing 151 run victory over Barbados Overseas.
The visitors, sporting one of the best pace attacks seen at Bottles Lane for some time, kept the Rodmersham batsmen under constant pressure. It was Piet Botha(152*) who won the battle of wills with the bowlers with a dazzling display of stroke play which saw 169 runs scored from the last 25 overs including an unbroken 5th wicket partnership of 129 from 16 overs with Neil Hodkinson(27*). Botha's runs came from 150 balls with his last 50 coming from just 15 balls.
Barbados Overseas started their pursuit of the 240 victory target in true calypso style, with 41 runs coming from the first 6 overs. The dismissal of the openers did not deter the later batsmen from adopting the same aggressive approach as they launched an aerial bombardment of the boundary. This tactic proved suicidal against against the off spin of Piet Botha who took 5 for 27 from 9 overs. Tom Munden (3 for 11 in 4.5 overs) lent excellent support as Rodmersham dismissed the opposition for 88 in 23.5 overs.
Piet Botha's aggregate for the Kent League now stands at 476runs in 6 innings at an average of 238.
