Match Report

Rodmersham

v

Wye

Match Type Kent League
Venue Bottles Lane
Date Sat 10th May 2003
Result Wye(13pts) winning draw against Rodmersham(5pts)

On a superb batting pitch the Rodmersham bowlers struggled to contain the Wye batsmen as they amassed 266 for 6 from their 50 overs. M Barnes (80) top scored with a stylish knock whilst his colleague G Starley(61) adopted a somewhat cruder approach. To add to Rodmersham's woe two of their bowlers, Lee Gregory and Tom Munden, picked up serious injuries and are likely to be out for some weeks.

Rodmersham's initial target was to reach 200 to achieve maximum bowling points. Despite losing two early wickets, including a totally unnecessary run out, this target looked well within reach. However, the controversial dismissal of Piet Botha(66) reduced the impetus of the innings and Rodmersham settled for the inevitable draw as their innings closed on 176 for 7.
