In a thrilling finish, Rodmersham beat Macknade from the last ball of the match. Macknade scored a creditable 115 for 6 from their 20 overs. Highest contributor to this score was Extras ( 51 including 34 wides )! These figures are testament to some extremely erratic bowling which was matched by a display of sub-standard fielding. The Rodmersham youngsters will want to forget their performance in the field but, unfortunately for them, their Coach will not!
The Rodmersham innings started well but became becalmed after the fall of the first wicket which left them requiring 46 runs from 6 overs to win. 14 runs were still needed for victory from the last over. In a heart stopping finish a boundary 4 from the penultimate ball followed by a single from the last gave Rodmersham a hard earned victory. Batting honours went to Daniel Mason (41*) for a patient and sensible innings that saw his team to victory.
Apart from the close finish, this game will be remembered for the combined total of 51 wides that were bowled, the resulting extra balls causing the game to finish in near total darkness at 9am.
