Forced to field only 9 men, life was always going to be an uphill struggle for Rodmersham. Undaunted, the 9 worked hard as a team and did exceedingly well to restrict Sidcup to 232 for 4.

Any hope of bringing off victory disappeared when Rodmersham were reduced to 19 for 3 after 10 overs and faced defeat if they lost 5 more wickets. The remaining batsmen then mounted a magnificent rearguard action as Trevor Jackson(56), John Savage(44*), Mark Bond(35) and Neil Cheesman(32) saw their side to 189 for 7 to earn a well deserved draw.
