Batting first in their final Kent League match of the season, Rodmersham posted a respectable 232 for 8 with batting honours being shared between Kevin Jones( 72 from 64 balls), Dave Cogger(64) and Piet Botha(51).

Chestfield's response started well with the openers putting on 54 for the first wicket in 13 overs. However, after 28 overs they had been reduced to 79 for 5 whereupon the batsmen dropped anchor and adopted dead bat tactics. Progress was so slow that Rodmersham introduced 9 bowlers in an attempt to relieve the tedium. Whilst much fun was had, it did hand the visitors two undeserved batting points.
