Rodmersham narrowly lost to Wye by 3 runs in their opening game of the season. Wye batted first and with the exception of S Wise (39) struggled to come to terms with some tight bowling. However, with their score at 144 for 9 a last wicket stand of 31 in 5 overs saw them to the unexpected respectability of 175 all out. Chris Whitehead bowled his familiar marathon spell taking 6 for 76 in 24 overs.
Like their opponents, Rodmersham struggled at the start of their innings but the evergreen Dave Cogger (69) saw them through this difficult period. Indifferent middle order batting saw the score reduced to 113 for 8 after 38 overs. There followed an excellent partnership of controlled aggression by Neil Hodkinson, adjudged LBW for 20, and Mike Jones (14*). With the score at 172 for 9 and 7 balls remaining the last wicket fell leaving Rodmersham to reflect on a disappointing 3 run defeat.
