This was a "must win" game for both Clubs who are struggling to avoid relegation from Division 2. Rodmersham were asked to bat first and progressed to 68 for 1 after 19 overs. Far from posting an expected score in the region of 200, they were all out 21overs later for 115 thanks primarily to an unnecessary run out and a number of batsmen failing to show the necessary application and technique that they are quite capable of. Third change bowler S Rajput was the main beneficiary of this batsmen largesse returning the flattering figures of 5 for 13 in 10.1 overs.
Hythe set about scoring the necessary 116 for victory in a competent manner, reaching 100 for 2 after 29 overs. There followed a flurry of 3 wkts as batsmen abandoned common sense and technique in an attempt to slog the winning runs. Again it was a third change bowler who benefited, Glyn Davies taking 3 for 15 from 5 overs.
This defeat means that Rodmersham now have a mountain to climb if they are to avoid relegation.
