Opportunities gained when batting and fielding were squandered by Rodmersham and cost them what should have been a comfortable victory. Dave Cogger(50) and 14 year old Kevin Jones(29) put on 78 for the first wicket in 23 overs and put Rodmersham in a position to score a challenging total. Excellent bowling by R Thornton (5 for 50 in 21 overs) prevented Rodmersham taking advantage of their position and they finished on a disappointing 177 for 9 from their 50 overs.
The Old Colfeians innings appeared all but over when a combination of two brilliant run outs and some tight bowling reduced them to 37 for 5 after 22 overs. P Rodgers (46) and R Thornton (80*) then mounted a rescue act, scoring at nearly a run a ball, to give their side a highly improbable 2 wicket victory in the 49th over. Chris Whitehead again took the bowling honours, taking 5 for 25 in 22 overs.
